The world and its crises are holding the attention of everyone, including the faithful of the catholic Church who have the social doctrine – where Gospel blends in real life – as a point of reference that cannot be ignored as far as social, political and economic issues are concerned. The article makes a critical reading of Caritas in veritate to examine the actual contribution of  the last social encyclical to the construction of a new humanity. A way is shown to find the roots of the text written by Benedict XVI (by analyzing any relationship with the Populorum progressio, and any references to the Scripture and to the natural law) and to sound any further perspectives of investigation. The underlying objective is providing some material for the research of a new anthropologic synthesis which may help overcome the various crises of our world.
